The Pin Mill Society exists for the maintenance, protection and enhancement of the natural and architectural beauties and amenities centred on the sailing hamlet of Pin Mill, on the banks of the River Orwell in Suffolk.

 Pin Mill is a picturesque sailing hamlet on the south side of the River Orwell, approximately 6 miles from Ipswich, along the B1456 road to Shotley. After passing through the village of Woolverstone, the next village is Chelmondiston, and the lane down to Pin MIll is on the left. Pin Mill is synonymous with Thames Sailing Barges, which are still to this day brought to Pin mill for maintenance works on the hard, so can often be seen here. The Pin Mill Sailing Club hosts an annual barge match, generally around the end of June / early July - the date varies every year, so as to be able to choose a suitable tide to compete on, as well as scheduling in with the other barge matches around the East Coast. It is always guaranteed to be quite a spectacle of tan sails on the Orwell.

A short way up the lane from the river is a public pay-as-you-go car park, with an adjacent picnic area, and there are numerous walks of varying degrees of difficulty and length.

Although not yet complete, Pin Mill features on the King Charles III England Coast Path, which will be the longest managed coastal path in the world, going all the way around the coast of England and will be in the region of 2,700 miles long when it is complete. The Shotley Gate to Felixstowe Ferry section has been completed, and is fully signposted . 

In association with the Butt & Oyster PH, "Pub walks with Darcy" is a good starting point to find a suitable Pin Mill walk.

 The Butt & Oyster Public House is on the waters edge at the end of the lane, offering a wide choice of beers and wines, as well as an excellent restaurant with outside seating,

and there is also a tea-shop / photographic studio,

two active boat yards (Webb's and King's), and the Pin Mill Sailing Club.

There is a public common, with seating along the front, and also an adjacent public lavatory block.

If you wish to stay in the area, there are a number of holiday cottages to let, and AirBnB sites, as well as accomodation in the Village of Chelmondiston, at the "Little Barn" at the Red Lion PH & restaurant.
